Lessons Learned – DE #10

DGST 101 has been nothing short of an emotional rollercoaster.

On applications, I would check the box that I was technically inclined and would be able to operate my way around a computer if needed. That is until I took this class… I was truly humbled.

It expanded my thinking regarding the impacts of technology. For example, when I read about soup dispensers not picking up on darker skin tones. I, as a person of color, did not even realize that could be a flaw in design I just thought the dispenser was out of soap.

Technology is in constant development, rapidly evolving more than any other man-made creation, which is terrifying. It makes it difficult for proper restrictions to be put in place and even harder for parents trying to keep their children safe from predators.

I hope to continue my education in digital studies so I can at least know what I am up against when the time comes.

I am just kidding … robots cannot take over anything unless programmed to do so which is why there is no way AI is completely unbiased.

DE #9 – Let’s Play with AI

I decided to start with ChatGPT. I gave it this prompt: Create a summary of a fantasy novel that navigates a werewolf being mated to an incubus.

It gave a Wattpad-type plot, so I prompted it again by telling it to change the names of the leads, mention that the female lead is strong-willed and very powerful, and add a family element.

Title: Moonbound Desires

Once I got that, I took that prompt to Co-Pilot and messed around until I got a picture that I liked.

I noticed that ChatGPT and AI in general are very generic when producing creative content. For example, when I asked Copilot to create an image the characters were white with blonde hair the “default”. After using this I can confidently say writers and artists will never be replaced because this was pretty awful entertainment-wise.

DE #8

I used Youtube generated closed captioning but here is the summary of the video. “Hi there, my name is Asia, and I am here to talk about some tips learned in class to help me succeed during this video project. Number one has good-quality audio, which is often overlooked. Also, I recommend having a script ready and being aware of the free resources that can be used to make life a little easier. Do not forget to ask for help because the DKC  is here to assist you with all your needs.

Digital Engagement #6

The film I chose was WALL-E because it is a childhood favorite and I will pass up the opportunity to talk about it. WALL-E is the last robot on Earth set with the task of cleaning which he had been doing for several hundred years. In this universe, Earth is completely barren and there is pretty much nothing left because the humans fled Earth years ago on a starship called Axiom. The only friend WALL-E had was a cockroach which is similar to an easter egg because it is often talked about that the cockroach would be the only living organism that would be left after an apocalyptic event.

In this movie, the humans that live on the ship are so fat that their only mode of transportation is floating chairs because their bones simply cannot bear the weight. I find this quite amusing because the older generations always talk about how Gen Z and Gen Alpha are becoming lazy due to their dependence on technical machines and the lack of manual labor skills compared to them. Humans are so reliant on technology that they have a robot or gadget for everything. At this point, they do not even raise their own children anymore or physically go and make food.

Throughout the years WALL-E started developing human feelings. He picked up body language and in his own way felt lonely being on the plant by himself. I feel a lot of this movie is the depiction of a Boomers’ worst nightmare. This is the embodiment of how people think society will develop if people start making robots that have feelings and honestly how irrational is that fear at this point? There are many theories that robots will one day take over the world because they are programmed to know all these things and people will start not being able to live without them. I do not think that robots can take over the world because they do what they are programmed to do they do not “learn” things they have algorithms to pull from but they can not use that information in situational circumstances.

A Certified Yapper … DE #5

Hi, my name is Asia Lockett, and this is me testing out the voice memos for our newest project. I am so excited about this project because I am a certified yapper. I have been considering starting a podcast with some of my close friends, and this might be a push in. the right direction.

Digital Engagement #2

Before starting this class, I was ignorant of the digital study world and I still have a lot to learn. This whole experience has been a steep but exciting learning curve for me. Special shoutout to the lovely educators who work at the Hurley Convergence Center because of their assistance I have this website. Currently, this website has no concrete direction, it will go through many phases as I discover what works for me. As I become more confident in managing this digital space, I am excited about the possibilities and the potential for sharing my story in new and creative ways.

At the end of the day, My goal is quite simple: to create something that I am proud of, that resonates with who I am and who I am becoming.
